Gender Inequality

One local problem is the issue of gender inequality. In our society we have failed at the social injustice o gender inequality. I want to change it because I know men and woman need each other and are more than compatible in working efficiently with no difference. One thing I could do is stand up for women when they are put down or inspire them to not be put down. I could also show men how women are being unequally treated by talking with them. I have also looked into an organization on campus called Gender Equality Organization. They firmly believe in helping Florida Gulf Coast University and offer a gender free space of individuals. Where they work against stereo types and help all genders speak freely.
On a even larger note global gender inequality is a even bigger problem. The United States of America is somewhat the best out of the other countries with the least discrimination. But at the same time there is a huge inequality level in America still.Last semester in my social problems class I learned that some country's had a complete role reversal where the women where in charge and ran their town's and villages. This is amazing and only proves that men and women can work together even better and can do the same if not more than men.So are society just needs to change and then help other country's society's.

Unhealthy Dream's

Lisa Shives M.D. wrote Viscious Cycle of Sleep Apnea And Obesity in Kids.
http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2012/02/17/vicious-cycle-of-sleep-apnea-and-obesity-in-kids/?hpt=he_c2
In this article she talks about how recently in a study children that are obese are becoming more and more susceptible to sleep apnea that's as severe as a normal adults. This causes OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) which 80 to 90 percent of the time in pediatrics is cured by removing the tonsils and adenoids. The reason this happens in obese children is because the tonsils become enlarged due to fatty tissues in the upper airways. Fat deposits in the chest and neck also add to the heaviness or collapsability of the neck during sleep.
I feel like this should be an eye opener to a big problem in America. Obesity is already the 2nd biggest cause in death, 1st is smoking and 3rd is alcohol. In the article I read a sentence that made me feel like there is no hope for these kids. One talked about how if your obese child has sleep deprivation it increases their hunger during the day. The problem I have with this is their already obese so eating more is even worse. I feel the parents are letting down their children. I'll even put it in a different perspective. Smoking and alcohol shouldn't be competing with eating as a cause of death. Because eating should not be a bad thing but over eating is and It is hurting everybody including your kids.

My Ethnicity Poem

Born in to the country of America,

a white freckled son of Irish.

A child of four, born into a calm world.

I am a Indianapolis Hoosier,

a prodigy of where speed and humor is made.

A citizen like all the others, but like none.

I speak English mirthfully; the language of my dreams,

dull or sharp, knowingly placing humor, in my world.

I am sweet, purposely placed, love in my heart.

Strength of my mind, holding all I know.

The language where money isn’t all,

the lyrics of the radio, the crazed moves of dancing.

I am of Irish passion, making history like my ancestors.

I try for you.

I am not Scottish, but the Scott’s are in me, but I can not return.

I am not British, but the Britt’s are in me, no trail of return.

I am not Australian, yet the Aussie’s are in me, no home to find.

I am new, the good old days brought me, my only language is English,

I was born into a calm world, the calm world was born into me.
